Resolution And Quality

This next series of articles focuses on the different aspects of video and digital imagery as it relates to different levels of resolution. The original photographed imagery is affected by the resolution of the camera and recording device; the resolution of the format and its use in post production applications impacts how we're able to manipulate these images with visual effects and color correction. Understanding more about these different subjects can give us a more objective standard for evaluating certain quality factors that impact our images.

  • Color Spaces: Color resolution and the different color models used in video and digital imagery.
  • Bit Depth: Every format has a recorded bit depth, a level of digital precision, and post processing also uses different levels of bit depth to process images as we see fit for different particular needs. These choices can affect the quality of our final product.
  • Analog Video Signal Types: The different ways we transmit an analog video signal from one device to another, and its impact on final quality.
  • Digital Video Signal Types: The different ways we transmit a digital video signal from one device to another, and its differences from analog signal types.
