A method of conveying or storing a video signal where luma and both color difference components are kept separate. Three cables connect component video, one for luma and one for each of the color difference components. Although the cables and the interfaces are often color coded red, green and blue- they are usually connecting luma, and two color difference channels, but not direct red, green and blue signals. Component, whether analog or digital, is the highest quality for transmitting or storing a video signal.
