Glossary Term

A term used with both film and video acquisition, although with slightly different meanings. It is a way of storing widescreen images on to a more square like frame, in other words, "squeezing" the image horizontally. On display, the image is un-squeezed. Used to describe 16x9 video (1.78:1) as well as anamorphic widescreen film (2.35:1).
