MC101 editing and MC110 Effects courses, or equivalent level of experience with Avid Media Composer. This class is also suitable for students who have just completed the MC201 Advanced Tips and Techniques course. This class is also suitable for Avid Xpress Pro and Avid Symphony users.

Course Description: 

This two-day workshop is designed for experienced Avid Media Composer editors who want to learn about specific workflow issues for documentary editing.

Using material and examples from a current documentary, Day 1 of the class addresses the basic post process for documentary editing, as well as advanced bin organization, Script Integration and ScriptSync, scene construction as well as useful effects. Day 1 sessions include instructor-led demonstration and hands-on practice. Day 2 consists of screening and analyzing three separate documentaries, as well as a guest appearance by a professional documentary editor.

  • Advanced project management.
  • Advanced bin organization.
  • Script Integration and ScriptSync.
  • Story and scene construction.
  • Visual effects to treat common problems of documentary footage, including:

           - Reformat effects
           - Stabilizing effects
           - Avid Pan and Scan
           - Intraframe Effects: Paint Tools

  • Stylistic approaches to documentary film and video.
  • Real-world documentary practice of a professional documentary filmmaker.
